BMC Live Web Event - Exploiting Indexes and Influencing DB2 on z/OS Usage, Wednesday, June 23, 2010, 1PM CDT

For high performance DB2 applications, it is important not only to understand how DB2 is optimizing its access to the data but also how well we are using indexes. Because we spend a lot of time building and maintaining indexes, it is important to use them wisely. Filtering as much as possible, as soon as possible, is key to achieving high performance, and the more we can filter via the indexes the better. In this session, we will discuss index design issues and query performance topics, including best use of index matching predicates and index screening. We will also describe how to influence DB2 to use particular indexes. Having accurate catalog statistics and coding proper predicates gives DB2 an excellent opportunity to choose the appropriate index for each query. In some situations, we may want to influence DB2 to use a certain index based on the common input values, the organization on input files to our processes, and the sequence of statements within a process. Join us and become an index expert!
